5 reasons why you should go vegan in 2021

Our diet is one of the most impactful parts of our lives. It determines whether we are going to end up with certain diseases which businesses make money off of us, and it is a statement of how conscious we are.

Many people’s New Year’s resolutions include getting healthier, losing weight, eating better and doing more to make the world a kinder place. The good news is that you can accomplish all these goals by going vegan - and you will enjoy delicious, satisfying meals as well.

Why Go Vegan?
You have probably heard about a couple of arguments that are made in favor of a vegan or a plant-based diet. It takes different reasons for different people to get motivated and start making some changes.
Whether you are already on your way towards a plant-based vegan diet or just playing with the idea, here are 5 reasons to think about:

1. Health and Nutrition

Many people who turn vegan are first drawn to it because they hear or read about the tremendous long-term health benefits of eliminating artery clogging and disease-accelerating animal products from their lives.
Some specifically turn to a plant-based diet to improve their health and well-being and eventually adopt the vegan lifestyle because of the numerous negative impacts of animal agriculture on animals and the planet.
In recent years, the health argument for veganism has gained tremendous traction, as several scientific studies have confirmed what vegans have been saying for years – you don’t need to consume animal products to live a healthy life; in fact, consuming a diet of plant-based whole foods is undoubtedly the healthier choice.

2. Be Healthier and Happier

Being vegan is great for your health! According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, vegans are less likely to develop heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure than meat-eaters are. Vegans get all the nutrients that they need to be healthy, such as plant protein, fibre, and minerals, without all the nasty stuff in meat that may slow you down and make you sick, such as cholesterol and saturated animal fat.

3. Animal products are dirty

Every time you sit down to a meal containing meat, eggs or dairy products, you are dining on known bacteria, antibiotics, hormones, dioxins and a host of other toxins that can cause serious health problems in humans.
An extremely high percentage of all the flesh butchered every year in the U.S. is contaminated with E. coli, campylobacter, listeria, or other dangerous bacteria that live in the intestinal tracts, flesh, and feces of animals.
The hormones naturally found in animal products can cause cancer development, gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts), and obesity. Even the label “organic” doesn’t do much here.

4. Vegan Food Is Delicious

When you go vegan, you can still eat all your favourite foods, including burgers, “chicken” sandwiches, and ice cream. As the demand for vegan food skyrockets, companies are coming out with more and more delicious meat and dairy-free options that taste great and are much healthier than their animal-derived counterparts, and don’t hurt any living beings.

5. We have no need for animal products

The killing of farmed animals is unnecessary, and therefore a cruel act. We simply do it for pleasure and out of tradition. There is no proof, what so ever, that human beings must eat meat, dairy or eggs, in order to be healthy and thriving. Quite the opposite is the case.
It is a learned behaviour, we are taught which animals are okay to eat – nothing that you would need to show a true meat eater like a lion or a bear. These animals aren’t as picky and show very different behaviour and instincts than we as humans.
Let’s not forget that we are not baby cows either who require the milk of their mothers and there’s no need to consume any other secretion besides our own mother’s milk past the first years of age. Needless to say, animals don’t want to die, they love and appreciate life.
Unfortunately, we just view them as “farm animals”, a faceless crowd without thinking of individuals with unique personalities and emotions – just like cats and dogs. Once we understand this connection and take appropriate steps, we can finally align our actions with our morals.

Food is undeniably one of life’s great pleasures. And when you bring your diet into alignment with your core values and beliefs, you’ll gain a whole new level of satisfaction from eating.
